DONRUSS DIAMOND KINGS ED WHITSON PEREZ

Back:
NO. 26 / DONRUSS DIAMOND KINGS / ED WHITSON / Pitcher / Padres / Once Ed Whitson escaped the tenseness of New York City and made it back to the serenity of San Diego, the right-hander rediscovered his pitching touch. He has quietly put together three respectable seasons since the Padres rescued him from the Yankees. Last year, despite the presence of newly-arrived Bruce Hurst, Whitson led the Padres' staff in wins with 16 and ERA with 2.66. A quiet native of Johnson City, TN, Whitson could not handle the torrents Yankee fans dealt him in 1985 and '86. He has settled down in San Diego and hopes to lead the Padres to another pennant, as he did in 1984. / ©1989 LEAF, INC. • MADE & PRINTED IN U.S.A. • PEREZ-STEELE GALLERIES
