Front: DONRUSS DIAMOND KINGS MIKE BIELECKI Back: NO. 9 / DONRUSS DIAMOND KINGS / MIKE BIELECKI / Pitcher / CUBS / By the time September rolled around, baseball fans had finally gotten to know about Mike Bielecki. It's understandable that it took so long considering the two pitchers ahead of him in the Cubs' rotation, Rick Sutcliffe and Greg Maddux, were established winners. But a look at Bielecki's record and you realize why Chicago was so successful in 1989. Once a promising right-hander in the Pittsburgh chain, he emerged from a spring training trial to boost the Cubs to the top of the National League East. The Cubs picked him up in a minor deal in the spring of '88 and it paid big dividends for them. His 18-7 record, 3.14 ERA and 147 strike outs ranked him among the premier pitchers in the league. / ©1989 LEAF, INC. • MADE & PRINTED IN U.S.A. • PEREZ-STEELE GALLERIES
